Beverly + Paul

If you have been following my blog lately you know that I shot a wedding last Saturday. Beverly and Paul (bride and groom) hosted a small number of close friends and family at their home on Lake Coeur d’ Alene. Beverly was wearing one of Luly Yang’s wedding dresses from Seattle. This dress was gorgeous and very intricate. Beverly wore this dress with style and elegance and she looked gorgeous. When Beverly and Paul commissioned me they told me that the love my work but wanted something a little more traditional. Which was fine, because that’s how I was trained when I worked at Quicksilver. Overall the day went really smooth and I can’t wait to show them all the pictures!

Jaime Johnson did an amazing job pulling all this two day festival together. To be honest I have no idea how Jaime pulls all this planning and organizing off. Not only is she slammed doing weddings and events but she actually finds time to organize her own parties. She truly is worth every penny!

Carissa Vera out did herself as well. Carissa has been known in this industry as the most creative florist around and I would have to agree. Being that Paul and Beverly are an older couple they wanted something elegant and traditional. Carissa placed roses everywhere! On the tables, chairs and designed the most amazing wedding arch loaded with roses! (don’t know what this is called but its where they stand when they get married. You would think that I would know the name by now!) Nice work Carissa.

I also wanted to let everyone know that there will be a wakeboard contest this weekend at Hauser Lake. Below is more information on all of the festivities. Although there is a decent wake scene in the area it can be much bigger. Please head down and support 3F2 and the riders.

I’m back and loving home

I had a blast in Seattle but it’s great to be home.

I was in Seattle to shoot a magazine Ad for Ten-80. I was told that I had creative freedom to do what I wanted as long as we had a lifestyle shot and a riding shot in the ad. So Chris Craig and I began discussing how we want to approach the ad and what look we were after. Chris really wanted the look to be an urban scene, which makes it difficult to incorporate a wakeboard shot. But as usual we figured out a way and it looks SWEET! Unfortunately I can’t show you the finished ad as of right now. Once the ad has been published I will post it so you can check it out.

Here are a couple lifestyle shots from the trip for you to look at.

Lake Shasta

It’s hard to find a way to define this trip. So many things went wrong and very few things went right! But overall the trip was a blast and I can’t wait for next year. Here is a quick breakdown of the mishaps.

Weather -

First 3 days we had 30 mph winds which created white caps on most of the lake. This also halted all shooting of pictures and video as well. It was until Friday that the wind stopped and we actually had some good water. None the less we were bored so we always went to look for a decently calm water to ride and shoot. Now, when I say decent I mean areas with only 10 mph winds. Now, if we were at our home waterways we would not even ride on days like this.

Houseboat -

Nick Jones found someone to let us stay on their houseboat in Shasta. Which saved lots of money but on the flip side the boat was……should I say….. old? On our main voyage out of the slip we were head on into 30 mph winds and the steering cable and throtal cable broke. Making us a giant wind sail and slammed us into the marina full of docked house boats! This was hilarious and no houseboats were harmed in this ( thank god). We ended up getting pulled to a little cove around the bend of the marina where we docked for the trip. There was also no bedrooms! So 15 of us slept on the roof in the howling winds. To finish it off, the owner of the boat had a “different” character than what we were used to. But we made the best of it, thats for sure!

The Boats -

Epic wakeboats sponsored our trip and we are very thankful to them for bringing us two boats to use and kicking down some money for the trip. This boat company has a great idea but they need some improvements to make this a world class wake boat. The 8.1 litter engine does get you out of the hole fast. Especially with 4,000 lbs of balast!

Gas -

Gas on this trip was outrageous! Average price was $5 to $5.70 a gallon on the lake! Now take that price and multiply that by 40 ( 40 gallon tanks ) $200 to fill the boat at $5 a gallon. Now times that by 2 and thats what we spent each day! Epic’s engines are big and powerful but you pay for it big time! Not only that but the chase boat ( the boat where the video and photographers are on) used just as much gas as the pull boat! $400 a day to run these boats!

The People -

One thing about wakeboarders is, they know how to have a good time. It is a very small communty of riders and everyone knows everyone. So when they get together it’s like comedy central and a family reunion combined. But what I respect even more is their work ethic! Yes to you and me it does not seem like a job, but they on the other hand think of it differently. In order for them to continue getting free wakeboards, clothing, sunglasses, boats etc. They have to either compete in contest and do well or get published in magazines and or videos. In order to do this they have to go on trips such as this one and work with videographers and photographers to “create” the perfect shot. Or get that footage the videographers need for the video. In order to be successful at this it requires early mornings ( usually up around 5 or 6 am ) and late nights. Our typical day was up at 6 am, shooting by 7 and done by 10 or 11 am because of the light. We would then hang on the houseboat from 10 am to 4 pm. At 4 pm we would head out for our afternoon light and be done around 9 or so. Back to the boat for dinner and a couple beers and off to bed.

Most of the riders on this trip I have either already meet or shot with. Raequel and Shawna Hoffman were on the trip and it was the first time I was able to meet them. These two girls are very serious about wakeboarding and also very good at it. Raequel was the second woman to ever land a 720 and was one hand away from being the first girl to land a 900! She was not able to ride much because of an injury but overall a great person. Not only that but she cooked all of our meals with her mom and she’s an awesome cook! So I need to give a shout out to the Hoffman crew for taking care of us and cooking! Nick Jones invited me down and also found the sponsors to pay my way. Nick is a stand up guy and I’m glad that I now have another buddy in the wake community. Thanks Nick.

Now it’s time for some photos. I would really love to show you all the A+ photos but I can’t. I need to save those for the mags but I do have some to show you. Check them out!

Out of the office

I wanted to let everyone know that I will be out of the office from June 9th thru June 15th. I will be flying into Sacramento and then heading to Lake Shasta. I will be shooting wakeboarding all week with some really talented riders and videographers. I’m not sure if I will have cell phone reception or not. If not I will return voicemails when I get home.

Well I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoy your work week!
