The day after the wedding a group of us decided to rent a car and head north of Puerto Vallarta. Not knowing what to expect we headed out on a fun journey to desolate beaches and fantastic restaurants. We headed to Sayulita which is about 30 min north of PV. This town is still fairly raw, meaning there is little American influences. We took a stroll on the beach, stop for a cerveza or two and then decided to cruise around downtown. Below are the pictures I took from our little walkabout town.
We were cruising around and Dewaine stop me and said….”did you see that guy sleeping? It would make a great shot”! So I cruised over there and tried to find a good angle to shoot it from. Then I noticed this amazing painting on the wall and knew right away I had to incorporate it into the shot.

This one was shot looking into a mirrors reflection.

Then I noticed this old man walking past me. I asked if I could take his picture and he nodded yes. I took a quick shot with his stoic face and immediately showed him the picture on the back of my camera. I wished someone had shot a picture of me showing him because he immediately started laughing and had a big smile on his face. Which was not the reaction I was expecting from him!

We then kept walking and I noticed the butcher across the street. I was trying to time the shot so his large knife would be in mid air. Unfortunately I missed it and got this shot instead.
The reason I didn’t get another chance to shoot another image is because his phone began to ring…..

Overall it was a great trip! If you ever head to Puerto Vallarta, do yourself a favor and stay in Sayulita. You will enjoy your Mexico experience to the fullest without any American influence!
I’m still doing jury duty and should be done Friday!

My friends over at Seven2 Interactive set me up with this awesome screen saver program. All you have to do is download the screen saver file, (Mac or PC file below) let it load the pictures and you will now have Sean Watson images playing right on your screen saver! What is even more unique….. when your computer turns on your screen saver it automatically searches to see if I have uploaded new pictures. Once the program detects new images it will download them automatically for you! Now, we are in the Beta stage of this so if you find any weird issues please let me know so I can pass it along to the developers.
In time I will have one for my weddings, lifestyle, wakeboard and commercial photography. Until then I will be adding a little bit of everything to this first one. I’m really excited about this (if you couldn’t tell) so make sure you pass this info to all your friends so they to can be as cool as you!

Sorry this is my first post in awhile. I’ve been working on on my house, marketing and the magazine. Once this weather clears up you can count on some more pictures!

First off, if you have not gone to your local book store to pick up your copy of Alliance wakeboard magazine make sure you do it soon. I have a vertical 2 page spread that turned out sweet and you should check it out!
I knew that I had to photograph a pin wheel today but I was not looking forward to setting up my 10 ft white paper seamless to do it. Not only that but I would have to bust out my studio lights, put them on stands, attach reflectors to them blah….blah. So long story short I have been procrastinating on getting this done. So I began to think of ways that I can use natural light to complete this project. I knew the pinwheel had to be a photographed against a white background (so the designer can cut it out easier) and that its due today. Then it hit me! I had some white particle board in the garage and I could use that for my background. Since my subject was so small all I had to use was a very small peice ( about 2ft X 2ft). I then pushed the pinwheel into the grass about 2 ft in front of the particle board. By using my 70 – 200 mm lens (I used this lens because a long lens compresses distance in a picture) I could isolate the pinwheel against the white particle board.

I then started thinking about why we are using this images in the magazine. I then remembered hearing that there will be a thousand pinwheels stuck in the ground at a local park in Coeur d Alene. This is to promote and gain support for a local non-profit organization in town. I then decided to add a little grass in the foreground. I laid as close to the ground as possible so I now have grass in the foreground and I’m now shooting up at the pinwheel (which adds a cool perspective). By laying on the ground I “hide” the distance between the pinwheel and the background. Which just happens to be my path to the garage.

Here is a shot of the setup from a higher another angle.

One thing I want to bring up is lighting. The sky has a thin layer of clouds today which acts as a diffuser for the sunlight. The clouds actually make everything “shadowless” since there is no direct sunlight. Because of this I did not have to use a reflector to bounce light into the shadows. Which also assisted me in my laziness
!
I think this shot turned out so well that I’m going to add it to my stock collection online. I mean, doesn’t everyone want to buy a picture of a pinwheel on a white background?

That’s right everyone Sean Watson Photography turned three on Sunday. Or was it Saturday? Hard to remember because this weekend was filled with riding bikes, working on the lawn, hanging with friends, drinking beer, working on the lawn and enjoying the sunshine. I know it has been a couple days since I have blogged but I have numerous things that I’m working on and I’m trying to determine which are feasible for this year. Feel free to send me a happy anniversary e-card. The funnier the better in my opinion! I will be posting again sometime soon with lots of big announcements (as usual).

Well spring is still not here yet but I hear a rumor that it might get to 65 degrees this weekend! That would be great because I have 5 months of dog treats in the backyard that I need to pick up! Then I will need to spend some quality time on my rockin beach cruiser.
I’m sure you all have been dying to know whats been going on in Sean’s life lately HaHa. Well I just received my Itinerary for my Puerto Vallarta wedding next month. I’m really excited about this because I could really use some sun on this skin and its going to be fun seeing old friends. Dave (the groom) is a friend of mine whom I meet through Scott. Scott is a friend of mine whom I meet through Rick. See, Rick is a friend that….oh never mind you get the idea. Anyways, Dave’s nickname is “The Legend” because he was one of the original wakeboarders or you could say one of the pioneers! Yea, that’s how cool this guy is. Not only that but he wants me to shoot his wedding pictures! I’m honored to do such a thing! To shorten this up a bit I’m staying at the Paradise Village in Puerto Vallarta if anyone wants to come down and second shoot with me.
I have also taken the position as Photo Editor for Neason magazine. Nseason is the area’s new outdoor, art and culture magazine made up of local creative talents. I guess you can say that its a grassroots magazine with money? The last three weeks I have been gathering photos, shooting stories and its almost time for the first layout. Our first issue will have a subscription base of 30,000 people. That is a bigger base subscription then any other magazine in the area . How cool is that! I am extremely honored to be chosen for this position and I look forward to all of the challenges, long nights and great photo assignments ahead of me.
Lets see what else…..Oh this is kinda geeky and some my call me a “tool” (you know who you are). But I just received my renewal for my Canon professional membership and they sent me this amazing book on everyone of their camera lenses. It has detailed pictures taken with that lens, explains why that lens is so cool and its all in a hard bound coffee table book! Canon spent some money on this and I’m glad they did!
Well thats all for now. Time to continue designing albums. I’ll leave you with one picture for the day. I can’t wait for days like below.
